~ have LOTS of things in your back-pocket for the moment something goes wrong (and know that it WILL go wrong!)
~ they do best when they know what is going to happen, so prepare them when the schedule will be altered

~ they love to play games and they will love you even more!

I completely agree with all of these, especially about the visuals! I have a lot of visuals in my classroom for my firsties which seem to work well. :)

I agree as well! I moved from 2nd down to 1st (against my will) and the hardest thing I found was how much help they need in the beginning to do their work. The good thing about moving up is that you can kind of pick up where you left off last year...
