Show and Tell Tuesday

I am linking up with Stephanie at Forever in Fifth for my Show and Tell Tuesday, all about fun October things!

Monday Made It: Meet the Teacher

Happy Monday!  I'm linking up with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics for

One of Tara's projects a couple of weeks ago was a "Meet the Teacher" board.  I LOVED her idea and wanted to make one for me! :)

I went to Michael's and bought a corkboard and used fun wrapping paper from Hobby Lobby to cover the board.
 Then I hot glued on a 6 foot pink feather boa around the edges.  {After I finished and held the board up, I realized I didn't get the boa glued on very well.  Be sure to use a lot of glue and push the feathers into the glue.}
I added a hot pink flower and an "H" for my last name.  I used hot glue for attaching both of these.
I made a little sign and had a bunch of photos of my family and teaching friends.  I put those on various scrapbooking pieces and laminated them.  I stapled everything to the board.
I love how it looks and it's a great way for my new firsties to see me as a person and not just their teacher! :)

I had extra pictures (because how can you choose?!), along with a little bit of space on a nearby wall, so this happened on Friday, even though I had a lot else to do!
Have a great week!  Our kiddos begin on Thursday!

Monday Made It! {August 4}

Happy Monday!

My husband's birthday was on Friday and my sister and I spent most of the summer planning a surprise party for him.  I wanted pom poms, but wasn't willing to pay for them, especially when my sister said she knew how to make them!
First unfold a set of tissue paper.  You will need 10 pieces.  I bought packs at Target.
Accordion fold the paper back and forth and then tie a long piece of ribbon in the middle.  Be sure you knot it tightly.
We cut the ends of the paper - we did triangle cuts, but you could round the edges.
Start in the middle and carefully pull each piece apart.  This takes a little bit of time so the tissue doesn't tear.
Fluff the pieces as you go.
Here's the one I finished!
Here's how they looked.  We decided to try to make a smaller one.  Once we had the pieces of paper unfolded from the package, we cut them down into a square instead of rectangle and then followed all of the steps above.  This made the finished pom pom just a little bit smaller and I actually liked that one best!

After we finished these, I went to the store and got lime green tissue paper to make one for the corner of my bulletin board.  We aren't supposed to have three dimensional things in our classroom, but I hope I can use it on my welcome back board.

Have a great week!

Pinterest Party is My Monday Made It!

Happy Monday!

I am linking up with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics for my

Several of my teacher friends and I have Pinterest parties several times a year.  One of the teachers has a pool, so we "saved" her party until the summer so we can enjoy the water along with our crafts!

Debbie, our host, went to Lowe's and purchased an 8' x 4' board and had it cut down to clipboard size.  She had scrapbooking paper and a lot of Mod Podge for us to make clipboards!

Here are my pages for my first clipboard.  Use Mod Podge to cover one side of the clipboard and cover it with one piece of scrapbooking paper.  Fold the edges of the paper over to seal the edges of the board.  Then Mod Podge the front of the board and place the second piece of paper.  For this board, I had the yellow on the back with the plaid on front, accented by the owls.
I used a scrap from the yellow paper to trim and cover one side of a binder clip.  The clip was then hot glued to the top center to make the clip part of the clipboard!
 My first clipboard.
The second clipboard has bright blue paper on the back with this adorable owl paper on the front!  Debbie found all different kinds of clips to use and I loved how this yellow one matched a few of the owls.

Have a great week!

Our 100th Day!

It's here!  Even with missing 4 days since returning from Christmas break, we celebrated our 100th Day of school!

On Tuesday afternoon we started making our hats. Snow had started to fall (and stick!) and by the end of the day we had some trouble focusing ... until craft time started! I cut 2 inch strips of construction paper, wrote "I am 100 days smarter" on sentence strips, pulled out stickers, markers, and BINGO dabbers, and let the kids go!

We finished the hats up today (missed school yesterday!) and wrote "I could eat 100 ______, but I couldn't eat 100 ______."

Our families sent in snacks.  The children picked out 10 sets of 10 of different snacks.

Our families also made posters and we had a little parade around the school this afternoon!

With one of special ed teachers, Leah, in our 100 Day shirts!

We also had 100 balloons brought to the school from our nearby Kroger for our celebration.  I have some fabulous pictures of the balloons being tossed in the air, but to protect all of our firsties, I am not including those pictures here.  They were so excited!

I am linking up with Mrs. Miner's Kindergarten Monkey Business for my 100 day celebration!

and a few of our activities

we continue to work on skip counting and counting backwards with number picture puzzles
Several of us from school have a Pinterest party about once every six weeks.  This was my turn to host, but since I live so far from the school, my friend Brittany opened up her home for us.  We made snowmen from bottle caps and coasters.  Can't have a party without some yummy food!

Instructions for the bottle cap snowmen ...
... use nail art polish to draw buttons and a face on the inside of bottle caps
... hot glue gun the three bottle caps to a small piece of ribbon and then glue the bottle caps together to make it stable
... wrap a piece of ribbon around and glue it together to make it look like a scarf and glue a button on top; we attached a magnet to the back of the middle bottle cap to have on our refrigerators, but you can also loop ribbon on the top to make it into an ornament

I am having a Jamberry online party!  Here's my first attempt.  If you're interested, click here.

 Have a great weekend!
