Five for Friday: LaSt DaY oF sChOol!

Oh my!  Today was the last day of school!  The longer I teach, the quicker the year goes by!  I'm linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching for my Five for Friday!
Two of our nephews finished their AWANA year this week and we were able to go to their celebrations.  We are so proud of them!
With Memorial Day being on Monday, it was time for Run for the Wall!  If you haven't heard about Run for the Wall, click here to read last year's post with an explanation.  Here are a couple of pictures from yesterday's visit.

Need a last minute gift idea for a helper or teacher aide?  Check out this idea!  I didn't realize until late last night that I didn't have ribbon to match ... oh, well!
Today, along with being the last day of school, was also field day.  Our PE teacher is amazing and I was blown away with how smoothly everything went!  Here's one of the stations she set up - sidewalk chalk and bubbles!  The kids had a blast!
Saying good-bye at the end of the year is hard.  This sweet girl was in my class last year and I can't believe another year has passed!
Have a great weekend!

A lovely group of Virginia bloggers would like to show our appreciation of you by extending a bit of southern hospitality.  You can follow along the blog hop to visit Virginia teacher blogs for terrific teaching tips and fun freebies to help get through the last couple of weeks before summer break.

I always end the year with a review of some of the more challenging skills for my children.  I try to find various activities and methods to review to keep my children focused and still learning.
Check out my newest review activity - Signs of Summer: Antonyms.
We love using QR codes!  Scan to see two images.  Decide if they are antonyms.  Color in the happy face or sad face on the recording page.
Check for understanding using "I have ... who has?"

or with one of these printables

Have a great end of the school year and a wonderful, relaxing summer!

Five for Friday: May 2nd

Happy Friday!  This means it's time for Five for Friday!

Here's what has happened this week ....
We used Mary Amoson (from Sharing Kindergarten)'s QR Scan and Learn: Insects pack.  The kids loved it!

Have you heard of Go Noodle?  We had several days with LOTS of rain this week and Go Noodle saved us!  Here's some of my kiddos in front of our Smart Board.

We are using the SuperKids reading program.  The unit we will finish next week has diphthongs for the word work - so we practiced reading and using these words and spelling features today.
tic-tac-toe (I found pink and blue button magnets at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago) using word cards
 and color/write word sort
We have been working on fractions in math this week.  Today we had math stations - one group went to the other first grade classroom to sort and match together fractions and fraction pictures.  The other group stayed in my room and we had a Write the Room activity (see picture).  Both of these activities are in my Fraction Mini Unit.
My husband and I are two weeks in to an eight week training to become foster/adoptive parents.  If we have all of our paperwork in order on the last night of class, the next day we are on the list to be called to have a child placed in our home.  This "if" has given us great motivation to complete and have everything ready to go!  Here is a picture of our bedroom.
The countdown is on - 15 more school days to go!
Have a great weekend!
