Math Review Activities

Since I have been teaching summer school, I have been reminded of what activities I need to create and have ready for the beginning of the year.  The activities in this post are all for math, but perhaps the best news is that I am giving these to you ... for free!

organizing the cards in binders
Earlier this week I posted about classroom organization.  Click {here} to read about my ideas.  I have printed all of the following activities out on cardstock, slid into page protectors, and they are placed in a three-ring binder.  These activities are a great idea for one-on-one or small group, perhaps with a paraprofessional.

This first activity is an addition review using pictures and requires the children to write an addition sentence before they solve.  Click {here} to get the addition freebie.

The next activity is a more or fewer activity.  Click {here} to get this freebie!

My next freebie has children count how many pictures there are on each page and write the number on a dry erase board.  This helps them practice associating a written numeral to an image.  Click {here} for this freebie!

I hope you enjoy these activities, but more importantly, are able to use these in your classroom!

Manic Monday - more on beginning sounds

With my current group of summer school kiddos, I've spent a lot of time in the last week and a half working on more beginning sounds activities.

The first activity includes 4 pictures on each card.  The children are to find the 2 pictures which begin with the same sound.  I've included a recording page for you to check student progress.  Click on one of the two pictures below or here to get this activity.
The second activity includes sorting activities that accompany the Smart Board I shared last week.  You can check out that post here and then grab the activity pages here.  I made one sorting activity to go with each Smart Board sort.

Blessings,

50 -- nifty!

I reached 50 followers!  Instead of doing a giveaway, in which you need to enter, I'm giving away 2 of my products as a thank you!

Here's my Blends Literacy Work Station Activities - there are 4 work station activities and 9 seatwork assignments.  This is on my TpT page, but if you click here, you can get it free!

And, here's my number sense through 50 activity.  Unfortunately, I don't have my picture anymore, but by clicking here, you can check it out for yourself!

Thanks for the friendships that have been made in the last few weeks!

Blessings,

Summer school is hard!

I forgot how hard (and exhausting!) summer school is ... until today.  I had to redo my math pretest, which changed what I had originally planned and after seeing the weakness my children have in beginning sounds, I stayed busy working on some activities last night.

This activity, pictured below, is using the Notebook software for a Smart Board.  If you have a Smart Board in your room, this is a freebie on my Tpt site.  There are 6 different sorting activities for beginning sounds.

This activity, pictured below, is also a freebie for all of my followers.  You can click on any of the images to get this for your classroom or here.  There are 20 pages of images (2 on a page), along with a recording page.  This activity would be useful in a small group or one-on-one.

Blessings,

What a week!

Last weekend was wonderful.  My husband and I drove to Indianapolis to visit his family as a surprise for my mother-in-law's birthday.  It ended up being timing only from the Lord, as Friday evening an awful storm came through Virginia, taking out power all over.  We are extending our trip so that we can stay in the air conditioning as long as possible, and be sure that when we drive home through Ohio and West Virginia, we can stop for gas!

On to other things ... here are two math activities that I have used with my first graders.  The first is a set of money activities.  It includes:
  • tree map sort of all 4 American coins
  • Do I have enough money? activity (uses pennies, nickels, and dimes)
  • count coins in a set and write the total (uses pennies, nickels, and dimes)
  • a "shopping activity" using pennies, nickels, and dimes
This freebie can be found at my TpT store.

The second activity is for a tree map of geometric shapes.  Use this geometry sort to check students' understanding of shapes in real life. Uses triangles, square, rectangles, and circles.  This freebie can also be found at my TpT store.

Hope that you can stay cool!
