Jessica is a wife, mother of 2 and First Grade Teacher. She has been teaching for 18 years and has a Master’s Degree in Math, Science and Technology for Elementary Education.  Her teaching journey began in 1998, New York City in Queens, NY. She moved out to Long Island 2 years later, where she was a 4th grade teacher. In 2004, she moved to Florida with her husband and 1 month old baby girl. She taught 3rd grade for several years, before an opening popped up in 1st grade. She was looking for a change and decided to let her principal know she wanted to move to 1st grade. That was 9 years ago. And she’s never looked back!
This year she was voted Teacher of the Year at her K-8 School by the Faculty and Staff. What a tremendous honor!!
In 2012, Jessica heard of a website where you can share, buy and sell lessons plans. She began to create things for others that she had been using for years. You can see her store here:  Store/Tales-Of-A-First-Grade-Teacher-Jessica-BerggrenOne of her favorite products is her Chevron Chic Blends and Digraphs pack.

It combines her love of creating decor and sound pedagogy in 1 product. This beautiful set includes posters for your classroom as well as practice for all of the blends and digraphs. The chevron colors are turquoise, orange, lime green, red and light blue. Each blend is accompanied by a bright and beautiful graphic.

Jessica’s favorite subject to teach is Math. Her Common Core Geometry Unit (insert picture of geometry unit) is creative, and fun! It includes a fun character named Miss Polygon. She will help you introduce your unit, and get your students engaged and excited to learn shapes! Common-Core-Geometry-Unit-starring-Miss-Poly-Gon-641360

If you are looking for an engaging unit to get your students interested in shapes, and to get your own creative wheels spinning, then this unit is for you!

Of course, Jessica loves to share Freebies as well….

Math Monday: Symmetry

Happy Monday! Here's another edition of Math Monday!

My second graders are busy in our symmetry unit! Here's what we've been up to!

We watched this as an introduction to symmetry.
Symmetry Book
Then we jumped into this great freebie from Create-abilities on symmetry. We are keeping a math notebook this year. The children attached this into their notebook to have a reference point. Some struggled with our first day, so I'm hoping they will check back during this unit.

Symmetry
Then today we began working on activities out of this great symmetry packet.

And we started looking at different pictures to decide if it has a line of symmetry.
We worked on identifying which image shows a correct line of symmetry.
I just finished 3 sets of task cards and have them all put together in this pack. There are 12 cards with each set of cards and a recording page for each. Check out the symmetry packet here. I will give each person who comments below the pack! Leave me a message about what you are currently covering in math. Don't forget to leave your email! You have until Wednesday, February 3rd!

Have a great week!

January Pick 3 Linky Party

I am so excited about this linky party since I love Pinterest! Here's my top three for January.
I just purchased a new journal to use to write these verses each day. I love the idea of spending time writing the verses while working to commit them to memory and just meditate on them daily.
Start the New Year off right by meditating on God’s Word. Here is our new Scripture writing plan for January! We are excited to have you join us as we dig in to the Bible as we kick off a new year. Share & enjoy! - www.wholemagazine.org:

I love this snowman rhyming activity! I have them printed, laminated, cut, magnets on the back, and in bags ready to go for next week's centers! I teach a combination first/second class this year. My first graders will be working on these in their center rotations.
Build A Snowman activity for rhyme and beginning sounds. Fun for winter-themed centers!:

I found this glyph the other day and have it ready to go. I love the differentiated aspect for having the children write about their snowman!
